confessions of a fabric obsessive

Time

Where has the time gone this last few months?

OK, I’ve been a bit distracted trying to redecorate the house which means moving stuff around, deciding whether things are staying or going (to the charity shop, or via freecycle and ebay) and clearing out a lot of stuff I’ve had since the kids where little (they’re taller than me now!).

There has also been a lot of reading and painting (walls, not canvases) but not nearly enough sewing.I’m still way behind on my Craftsy Block of the Month blocks, I have 4 blocks outstanding and it’s almost the end of the month again!

I did manage to squeeze in a visit to the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery  to see the African textile exhibition. I love those batiks and small prints.

I always start in the Museum Gift Shop (and sometimes I spend so long in there I don’t get any further). There were lots of postcards of Pre-Raphaelite art, of course, but I did spot two books that I might buy next time  (and took a photo of them, just to remind myself).

This was the most organised museum trip I have ever done. I didn’t have lots of time, and was determined to see several rooms and two exhibitions, so I got myself a museum map and marked the locations and worked out a route for myself that started with the shop and ended by the lift to the street entrance (my dodgy knees mean that stairs go up but not down). I have quite a thing for architecture ( I toyed with the idea of becoming an architect’s draughtsman for a while, and did a distance learning course on interior design when my two children were very small and in bed by 7m every night) and I love the museum building itself, so I made sure that I took photos of the building and two of the stained glass windows with today’s sunshine pouring through it.

Fabric Giveaway with Secret Garden Quilting

Lovely fabric giveaway. No-one is allowed to copy my comment, which for those not wanting to scroll all the way down is here :
Well knowing me, I’d unpack the pretty fabrics and leave them on my kitchen table for a week just so I could pet them and stroke them and tell them how pretty they are. Then, after narrowly saving them from a weekend-fried-breakfast-disaster, they would go in my back room with lots of other pretty fabrics to keep them company until I finish my undergraduate diploma and made them into a quilt for when I move into a new flat with my fiance (I made him wait 6 years while my teenaged kids grew up and left home before I would start planning to live with him, so I probably owe him some pretty made-specially-for-our-place stuff). Then I would keep the scraps for ages until I found some time to make little stuff for the aformentioned kids for their first-place-on-their-own-after-graduation.

I know what I’m like!

Spam, spam, spam, spam..

spam

spam; good in sandwiches, waste of time in any means of communication

Spam happens to the comments sections of blogs just the same as it happens to email inboxes. I thought I’d share a few of the more publishable ones:

“The next time I read a blog, I hope that it won’t disappoint me just as much as this one. I mean, Yes, it was my choice to read through, however I really thought you would probably have something useful to say. All I hear is a bunch of complaining about something that you could fix if you weren’t too busy looking for attention.

I’ve reread this post this comment was added to and I can’t find any whining…it’s almost like the commenter is just begging you to publish, answer back and defend yourself really.

“I’ll immediately clutch your rss as I can’t to find your e-mail subscription hyperlink or e-newsletter service. Do you have any? Please let me recognise in order that I may just subscribe. Thanks.”

“Clutch” my rss?”. I’m guessing that should have been “grab”, and “recognise” should have been “see” and that means that Google Translate really doesn’t do the English language justice. Also, email subscription is at the bottom of all wordpress blogs, dude, and the “follow me” , RSS , and bloglovin buttons and facebook  feeds  are all in the column on the left and are HUMUNGOUS!

There is one very important thing the two creators promise people who join – that they will sister mcbride and her excommunication?

straight in the trash…

I bought this pair of glasses for vacation at the beach and they were fantastic! They fit like a glove and were light. The optics are not as good as my Serengeti aviators; however, the ray bans are also 1/2 the price. I highly recommend them for style, functionality and of course price

Looking at what I usually blog about, I can’t think what made this commenter think I would be interested in sunglasses.

This is a message to the admin. Your website is missing out on at least 300 visitors per day. I have found a company which offers to dramatically increase your visitors to your website: (insert webaddress here) They offer 1,000 free visitors during their free trial period and I managed to get over 30,000 visitors per month using their services, you could also get lot more targeted traffic than you have now. Hope this helps :)Take care.

from “Lindsey”

Sorry Lindsey, I don’t see why your “free visitors ” are any different to the visitors I get at the moment..

Mmm, unless the links to a commenter’s website are actually even vaguely connected to what I’m blogging about, this comment is going straight in the trash.

I seldom leave a response, however i did a few searching and wound up here Block of the Month – February | HandmadebyClaireBear. And I actually do have 2 questions for you if you usually do not mind.

Is it only me or does it appear like some of the remarks appear like they are coming from brain dead people? :-P And, if you are posting on additional social sites, I would like to keep up with everything fresh you have to post. Could you make a list of the complete urls of all your public pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile? (link to website)

from vimeo user

I’ve had this comment so many times, word for word identical every time, and I never “allow” it. All of my other pages are listed on my blog, so obviously this a just a copy and paste job. Now I’m putting spam commenter’s IP addresses in the WordPress comment blacklist (settings/ discussion then scroll down a bit) this comment/commenter seems to have disappeared.

In fact, many, many spam comments have disappeared, I’m happy to have links to your blog, your website, your shop where all your wonderful stuff is available, but people who are paid to sit at a computer all day, and spam my blog just get their comments deleted.

Vent over, more sewing next post (promise).
